Meditations for the Via Crucis - Eleventh Station
Jesus dies on the Cross
Reading from the Gospel according to John | (Jn 19: 26-27; 30) |
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother: ‘Woman, behold your son!’ Then he said to the disciple: ‘Behold your mother!’ and from that hour the disciple took her to his own house. When Jesus had received the vinegar he said, ‘It is finished’; and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Reflection
If in Eden the side of Adam gave life to Eve,
Now from the side of Christ, the new Adam, the Church is born,
The people of those who believe.
Mary, image of the Church and its Mother remains standing beneath the Cross
And heeds the last wish of her Son;
To accept and embrace every disciple of Christ.
Prayer
O Mary, you obeyed until the end, even when a sword of sorrow pierced your heart.
Remain with us now and for every so that when the hour of our death arrives,
You may help us to put our very lives in Christ’s embrace, he who is our Lord and Saviour.
Silence.....Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be
Blessed is the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus
O Lord have mercy on us and grant us forgiveness of our sins
We adore you O Christ and we bless you.
Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.
