Meditations for the Via Crucis - Ninth Station
Jesus stripped of his clothes
Reading from the Gospel according to John | (Jn 19: 23-24) |
When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and made four parts, one for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was without seam, woven from top to bottom; so they said to one another: ‘Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be’.
Reflection
On Golgotha, the place of death, man takes into his hands the Son of God and strips him from his clothes and for them they casted lots. What a contradiction!
Man is created on the image of God, created to love, but now he is sick with the sickness of power and for a few clothes he chooses to live in hatred and brings division in his own family!
Prayer
O Mary, Mother of the Good Shepherd
Who gave his life for his sheep,
Gather us together in one flock
That inspired by love we may help and forgive each other.
Make us instruments of Peace
That the Kingdom of your Son Jesus Christ may grow among us.
Silence.....Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be
Blessed is the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus
O Lord have mercy on us and grant us forgiveness of our sins
We adore you O Christ and we bless you.
Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.
